Roman province (from 29 B.C.) on the lower Danube (q.v.), extending to the Black Sea (q.v.) in what is today Serbia and Bulgaria (qq.v.). It was overrun by the Huns (q.v.) in the fifth century, and lost to the Slavs and Avars (qq.v.) in the seventh century.
